On April 27th, NPU’s international chess club hosted the 3rd International Chess Tournament in Haitianyuan. This year the competition attracted interest from more than 30 players. The level of play was very diverse. Beginner and expert，undergraduates, masters, and even PhD students were battling it out on the chessboard.

4 月 27 日，西北工业大学国际教育学院国际象棋俱乐部在国际学生活动中心成功举办第三届国际象棋比赛。这场备受期待的赛事吸引了 30 余名棋手跨越学业层级与棋艺高低，从初执棋子的 “弈坛新秀”，到深谙布局之道的 “棋场老将”，博士生、硕士生与本科生同聚一方棋盘，以黑白格为战场，展开了一场精妙绝伦的策略博弈。选手们指尖起落间，每一步棋都凝聚着深思熟虑，在纵横交错的棋盘上，上演着智慧与谋略交织的精彩对决。

Chess is one of the most grueling and unforgiving games. There is hardly any luck involved, and it all depends on the players and their wit. Despite this, the participants brought a wonderful energy to the competition. The president of the chess club, Leo, commented, “Everyone played with incredible energy and fighting spirit. What impressed me most was how players, even after tough losses, stuck around and cheered on their friends—that’s the sportsmanship we love to see.” Chess may be a battle of wits but after the war there forms a deep sense of admiration and respect for your opponent.

国际象棋是智力的竞技，棋盘之上没有丝毫运气可言，每一步落子皆是棋手智慧与谋略的具象化交锋。然而，在这片充满理性博弈的黑白战场上，参赛者们却以蓬勃的热情点燃了赛场。

国际象棋俱乐部主席 Leo 感慨道：“这场比赛中，每位选手都展现出了令人惊叹的活力与斗志。最让我动容的是，即便面对实力悬殊的败局，棋手们依然坚持到最后一刻，还会为场上的伙伴呐喊助威。这种永不言弃、尊重对手的体育精神，正是我们举办赛事最希望看到的景象。”国际象棋的确是智慧的巅峰对决，但每一场博弈结束后，棋手们都会对对手产生由衷的钦佩与敬意，这或许就是这项运动独特的魅力所在。

After a fierce few hours of intense chess, the game started to get more tactical. Many of the games were one-sided, but a few matches were very intense, where the players fought to the bitter end. During these competitive games, time was of the essence. Players had to think of moves quickly to put pressure on their opponent. Leo also commented on the more competitive games, saying, “Personally, I love those competitive games because that's when players really pull out all their tricks and strategies. A perfect example was the showdown between Damian and Lubinda Mufalali—every single one of their best-of-three games went deep into the endgame. Lubinda edged it out 2-1, but Damian put up an amazing fight!”

随着时针的转动，几个小时的鏖战让赛场氛围愈发凝重，棋局逐渐演变为精妙战术的博弈场。棋盘上，部分对局呈现出一边倒的局势，而另有几场巅峰对决却如胶着的拉锯战，棋手们寸步不让，将这盘棋坚持到了最后一秒。在这些扣人心弦的较量中，选手们必须在分秒间飞速思索，以凌厉的攻势向对手施压，试图在这场智力与耐力的双重考验中抢占先机。

谈及这些白热化的对决，Leo 难掩兴奋之情：“我始终偏爱势均力敌的较量，因为只有在这样的对局中，选手们才会将全部的实力与谋略倾囊而出。Damian和 Lubinda的三番棋大战堪称经典 —— 每一局都厮杀至尾盘，双方在残局阶段的攻防转换精妙绝伦。最终， Lubinda以 2 比 1 惊险取胜，但Damian在棋盘上展现出的韧性与棋艺，同样令人拍案叫绝！”

The competition came to a close when finalists Inura Rajapaksa and Lubinda Mufalali had a match. Lubinda had a few close matches but was going into the game with a great record. However, Inura was on a flawless streak during the competition, and he was not willing to lose even a single match to Lubinda. Inura used his skill and momentum and defeated Lubinda with a crushing 2:0 victory.

当棋盘上的战火燃至最后一刻，选手 Inura Rajapaksa 与 Lubinda Mufalali 的终极对决，为这场智慧盛宴画上了句点。此前的赛程中，Lubinda 凭借多场险胜的出色发挥，一路过关斩将闯入决赛，实力不容小觑。然而面对这位劲敌，Inura 展现出了近乎完美的竞技状态，在他眼中，没有丝毫退让的余地，每一局都志在必得。

棋盘上，Inura 将精湛的技术与强大的气势完美融合，步步为营，招招紧逼。他的落子精准地撕开对手防线；每一次布局调整，都似精密的齿轮咬合，不给 Lubinda 留下反击缝隙。最终，Inura 以 2:0 的绝对优势横扫对手，用无可争议的胜利，将冠军荣耀收入囊中。这场对决不仅是技术的比拼，更是意志的较量，Inura 用实力诠释了赛场的王者风范。

It was truly a thrilling and joyous event that brought together many talented and up-and-coming players.
